NaturBornholm

See, feel and experience the phenomena and evolution of nature.

You can see the life-size model of a plesiosaurus and the first Danish dinosaur, the Dromaeosaurus, that once lived on Bornholm. Live crocodiles exemplify the present version of past life.

Modern technology helps you witness the genesis of Bornholm, which began 1.7 billion years ago and which among other things includes an 545 million year old arid desert landscape situated where the Falkland Islands are today.

You can straddle 1.2 billion years right outside NaturBornholm. Here you can see the fault line that divides the island into the ancient granite of the north and the sandstone stratum of the south, which is 1.2 billion years younger.

In actual fact, the fault line is not just a Bornholm phenomenon but a geological feature on a European scale. The fault zone (the Fennoscandian Border Zone) starts in the Skagerrak and runs right through Bornholm, petering out in the Black Sea. On Bornholm the fault line is visible just below the surface, making it possible to straddle 1.2 billion years outside NaturBornholm.
